Did you start a plant-based journey to improve your health AND to lose some weight?
There’s no denying that a plant predominant style of eating leads to better long-term health.
This is undeniable when we look at the research showing how important fiber is to our microbiome.
Only plants have fiber, and only fiber feeds your good gut bacteria which is responsible for 80% of your immunity
A plant-based journey will improve your health, can it help you lose weight?
Not necessarily…
Especially if your food choices are being influenced by the ‘very loud’ high-fat messages?
I’m seeing this a LOT and it’s subtle…
- A few too many handfuls of ‘heart-healthy’ nuts a day.
- Thinking ALL dairy-free products are ‘free for all’.
- And believing the ‘fat won’t make you fat’ messaging.
It’s confusing! I get it!
In my 3 decades as a Dietitian, I’ve seen hundreds of dieting trends come and go, and as consumers, we end up with hundreds of snippets of what we’ve been told is healthy or unhealthy.
I’m seeing the pitfalls of this mishmash of weight-loss trends like…
- But isn’t olive oil healthy?
- Aren’t nuts good for me?
- What’s wrong with coconut yogurt?
And on and on it goes!
I see a lot of clients who’ve made some significant changes to their diet, they’re eating way more plants than they used to…
But they’re unknowingly eating a high-fat diet.
Unless you’re on a strict keto regime (which I do not promote) and you are in ketosis, a high-fat diet is just that…high in fat and will not promote weight loss.
In fact, many cardiologists are saying that keto is their worst nightmare as they’re seeing patients’ cholesterol levels skyrocket.
My advice is for anyone who has been following a high-fat diet to see their GP and have your cholesterol levels checked.
So while you may have introduced more plants into your diet, if you’re still…
- cooking with unlimited butter & oils
- eating vast quantities of nuts & seeds (think protein bliss balls) and
- coconut yogurt has become a bottomless pit
It may be these habits that are hindering your weight loss efforts.
It doesn’t take much to tweak these high-fat trends and remove or swap the culprits and find new ways of making the food tasty and satisfying.
If you’re ready to ditch restrictive, calorie-counting, portion-controlled dieting regimes and learn how to nourish your body with more plants WHILE you release weight
Then let’s chat.
After getting breast cancer back in 2013, I did a deep dive into the research and came up plant-based, and totally believe you can optimise your health and release weight eating plants, without spending hours in the kitchen or following complicated recipes. In fact, my clients all work towards a customised menu plan that suits their family so they never have to think ‘What’s for dinner?’ again!
I believe this is why so many diets fail.
We commit to a 6 week challenge - pay for a coach or announce it to the world and off we go!
But then the coaching ends OR the 6 weeks are up!
When I work with clients at some point they’ll say...I almost ate XXX on the weekend, but I knew I had to tell you so I resisted.
I am acutely aware that I will not be in my clients' lives forever.
So I never pass quickly over these revelations because I want to make sure they have the tools to deal with these situations when I’m not around.
