Your why matters for long-term weight loss

We all have our ‘go-to’ reasons but the truth of it is…if we really want to do something, we find a way.

I was reminiscing recently, when I saw a young mum with a toddler strapped to her back, and pushing a pram with a newborn.

That was me some 20 years ago, finding a way to exercise…pushing a double pram with 4 children!

Mine was a long double pram (rather than the side-by-side type) so the newborn lay at the back, with the next 2 sitting up, and the oldest sitting on the handlebar!

Yes, I had to be super organised and have extra snacks for the kids on the way home (it was about a 5km walk) but I was determined to find ways to exercise.

I would also meet my girlfriend (and her 3 children) at the local pool, and we would take turns doing our laps, while the other one looked after the flock of 7.

When we had social nights, this friend and I would take off for an extra-long walk, and leave all 7 with the dads, before we came home to our bubbles (pre-breast cancer days when I indulged).

So yes, where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Do you have any go-to reasons for stalling on honouring yourself with good health?

In my industry, I hear a lot of excuses about how hard it is to eat healthily.

That eating healthy is too expensive or takes too much time.

Or the family isn’t on board and they don’t want to cook two meals every night.

Or that once you hit midlife, hormones make it impossible to release weight.

All valid reasons…but where there’s a will, there’s a way.

I say this because quite often it’s simply because we don’t know what we don’t know.

What I mean is perhaps there is a ‘way’ but you haven’t thought of it yet, OR had someone look into your life and help you ‘see’ a way.

And once our eyes have been opened to a different way of doing something, we start seeing possibilities.

I hear…”Wow, I never thought of doing that!” a lot in my sessions with women in midlife who are transitioning to a primarily plant-based lifestyle.

So why didn’t you ‘think’ of that?

Because it’s not your field of expertise…it’s mine.
